Phosphine is sometimes used for fumigation of artifacts in museums. It can be absorbed through the skin, or via inhalation, and its health hazards are described. Recommended TLV, STEL, and PEL levels are given. Because of the known acute hazards of exposure to phosphine, alternate methods of fumigation are suggested.
