Abstract
Tests have been carried out on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity on samples from different parts of a Venetian building of the XVIIth century. It is shown that strength of masonry may be calculated from the strength of bricks and mortar by means of an empirical formula. Use of stronger mortar allows increase of masonry strength.
