Abstract
The role of soluble salts (sulfates and nitrates) in the brick deterioration of a cloister in toulouse is emphasized. If the sulfates may have their origin in the firing of the bricks, the nitrates have an external origin. The biological cycles of sulfur and nitrogen can take place in the soil near the masonry or in the foundations.
