Abstract
Relevant concepts on deterioration processes have been collected and exposed in a generally descriptive way. The following processes are described: water movement inside porous bodies, mechanical stress (external and internal), chemical corrosion processes. The consequences of the proposed model, with respect to conservation practice are then discussed.
