For the rehanging of the restored <i>Night Watch, it was decided to reframe the painting in a manner as close to its original as possible. Extensive research on various previous frames for the painting and its different locations is accompanied by renderings and photographs. Cross-section profiles of various frames are illustrated with the moulding finally chosen for the reframing, a dark, simple, narrow moulding. The visual impact of a frame on a viewer and historical justification are discussed. -- AATA
