The author gives some information based on trade manuals and other literature sources about the method of manufacture and colors available for painting buildings in the 18th century. He has also done some practical experiments making up samples of paint from the pigments used in the 18th century and preparing color cards. He is continuing this research at the Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies, York. -- AATA
