Abstract
The pewter jug from Utö Church in the Stockholm Archipelago was in very poor condition. The surface had corroded and there were cracks in several places. The cracks were soldered over. The handle and the belly of the jug were straightened but the missing pieces were not replaced. Surface blisters were removed using a rotating carborundum tip. The jug was scratched with a rotating brass brush and soap bark and powdered pumice stone. On heating prior to straightening, it was discovered that the material was unusually hard. The composition mark was used on a specially composed pewter alloy.
