Abstract
The saving of a pebble plaster from Prangins castle, Switzerland requires a new rigid transferring technique. A separating layer of Paraloid B-72 and sawdust is applied in order to isolate the pebble ground. In a self stabilizing iron frame with a corresponding wire netting adapted to the ground size, an epoxy resin foam (Araldit CW 2215 + hardener HM + foaming agent DY 050) is applied as an adhesive layer. After hardening the ground is linked to the frame by a foam layer of 4-8 cm thickness. With pneumatically operated lifters, the pebble plaster can be released from its bed precisely controlled. After cleaning the back, under maintenance of the original grouting, a mixture of ceramic balls (Macrolite ML 357) and epoxy resin is applied as a mortar before the pebble ground is laid anew on a predensified sand soil. The advantages of the especially developed mortar are high strength concomitant with low mass, no decomposition of the ceramic balls, good water permeability, and little resin consumption during processing.
