Reviews the state of rock art preservation today and compares it with the current concern for, and progress in, the other more familiar forms of art. The authors discuss the present state of knowledge in rock art conservation procedure as well as the problems that face the conservator of this type of material. Weathering, instability of pigments, and problems associated with waterproofing treatments are introduced.
