Two phenomena experienced by paper restorers are described here. Iron content inks can cause ink corrosion, for which the author suggests methods of protection different from the harmful and regrettably widespread practice of sodium borate handling. Foxing is the appearance of brownish-reddish spots on papers, caused by microbes. Ultra-violet lamp treatment can help in such cases.
