The importance of complete and accurate documentation of preparation and conservation treatments cannot be overemphasized. Accordingly, the Conservation Committee of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections has undertaken the development of guidelines for the documentation of specimen condition and treatments employed in natural science collections. The guidelines and examples of formats for documenting palaeontological and geological specimens are presented.
