A classification scheme was developed, pertaining to dyeing technology: the set and number of colors; the composition of dyes in threads of each color; the number of shades of each color; the extent to which one dye was used to obtain different colors and shades; characteristic combination of dyes; the degree of color homogeneity of filaments in threads; the dye content in % per 100 g. of silk; the size and distribution of indigo particles in the volume and on the surface of filaments. A study of the collection of well-documented textiles from the collection of Moscow Kremlin State Museums was begun by means of this system. A comparative study of nine Persian and seven Turkish 16th-17th-century textiles was carried out.
