The Hudson-Mohawk Gateway of New York State is one of the most important locations in the United States associated with the Industrial Revolution. Its industries were early, diverse, sizeable, and associated with important persons and considerable technological innovation. Though the area has long since ceased being an important industrial center, it is rich in remains of its former greatness. A considerable number of these remains are important engineering works. The Hudson-Mohawk Industrial Gateway, a private, educational, membership organization has begun the preservation of these monuments by adaptive reuse, tourism, and study. Among other techniques employed are an inventory and evaluation of sites as well as area designation as an Urban Cultural Park.
