The author describes the essence of coloristic research and activity, the history of natural dyes, and the recent synthetic dye groups. Some relationships existing between the research of dyes and color testing methods are illustrated by a typical example and also some industrial areas mentioned where coloristic activity has a decisive role. The objective determination of colors and fundamental questions of instrumental color determination as well as of making up formulas by computer technique are discussed. -- AATA
