Abstract
Describes multidisciplinary research used in traditional archaeology, and in modern rescue archaeology, with possible improvements in modern use. Provides an historic overview; discusses the problem of the synthesis of research in many areas. Examines the use of this approach in Tomatlan rescue project: incorporating human osteology, geology, ethnography, and ethnobotany. The results have not been wholly successful. Suggests improvements in planning, field work, laboratory analysis, and publication.
