Abstract
The steady state concentration of cosmogenic <sup>14</sup>C in the atmospheric carbon dioxide has decreased over the past 6,000 years by almost 10%. This decrease is commonly attributed to an increase in the geomagnetic dipole moment by as much as a factor of three. Superimposed upon this decrease are fluctuations of the atmospheric <sup>14</sup>CO<sub>2</sub> radioactivity with a time constant on the order of some 100 years. These relatively rapid fluctuations are caused by variations in the <sup>14</sup>C production due to the heliomagnetic modulation of the galactic cosmic rays that lead to the production of <sup>14</sup>C in the atmosphere. The purpose of this research in climate dynamics is to find <sup>14</sup>C values further back in time and find an explanation for the divergence between <sup>14</sup>C dates and true values.
