Abstract
The Prado Museum is scheduled to complete the installation of climate control. The installation of the hardware was facilitated by the presence of space between walls in the museum,s upper stories. Cleansed of sulfur dioxide the filtered air is to be maintained at a relative humidity of 50% and a temperature of 68° Fahrenheit. There are to be separate environments for visitors and paintings. Because the paintings have been moved about very little, they are in relatively good condition. However, air pollution since 1945 and increasing numbers of visitors have increased the problems of their conservation. The writer discusses in detail the Prado's administration history which also throws light on the chronic lack of comprehensive conservation.
