Equipment for studying paintings and archaeological objects in the Research Laboratory of France located in the Louvre Palace is described for performing x-ray fluorescence analysis. Classical apparatus are used to analyze materials with a siliceous matrix whereas x-ray micro-fluorescence apparatus are used to analyze large objects, such as paintings and statues. A 3rd type of apparatus allowing the analysis of microsurfaces of samples is described that is appli-cable to painting or metallographic layers. See 18-124. -- AATA
