Lorca's architectural heritage presently includes a series of buildings with attributes and an artistic personality that allows an approximate overall vision to be gained of what the city was like in the past, particularly in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. An outstanding feature of its religious architecture is the Saint Patrick's collegiate church, which over the two-hundred-year course of its construction kept its original architectural plan dating from the 16th century, although taking on Baroque forms and motifs, especially on its main facade and retro-quire, built at the end of the 17th and early 18th centuries, respectively. The most outstanding example of civil architecture is the palatial residence of Juan de Guevara (1694), the portal of which is considered one of the earliest representations of the Spanish Baroque style. Finally, it can be asserted that Lorca is an example of a Baroque city with sufficient remaining evidence to this effect, despite the damage caused by the earthquake of 11 May 2011, as to warrant restoration of its artistic and cultural heritage.
