Abstract
On May 11th 2011, at 18.47, an earthquake of magnitude 5,1 was preceded by another of magnitude 4.5 caused extensive damage in the town of Lorca. Nine people died, 324 injured, thousands of homeless, 80% or more than 7.800 buildings were damaged to different degrees. Many activities and services were interrupted. First, in this situation, emergency measures were established in order to save lives (search and rescue teams, medical attention, psychosocial care, and shelter and supplies teams). Secondly it was needed to estimate the habitability of the affected properties following security standards. Once the Real Decreto-ley 6/2011was passed, the recovery phase began and thus the post-emergency actions.
