Catastrophic risks that threaten the cultural heritage are usually events that occur suddenly and with very little chance of prior detection. The implementation of the strategy of preventive conservation provides a method of systematic work to be prepared before the catastrophe from happening and minimize the damage that may occur. This working method is articulated through the Plan of preventive conservation of the institutions responsible for the conservation of cultural heritage and implies a proper assessment of the risks.
