Abstract
Ecuador is a country with diverse cultures and, among its heritage, there are three million patrimonial goods, of which approximately 90,000 are registered. These face natural and human-made risks, since Ecuador is a vulnerable country. There is not yet an estimate to quantify its economic and cultural loss, since it has been considered a less important sector. In order to overcome this vision, it is important that it is considered as a public policy related to security. Ecuador has taken steps towards risk management as State policy, taking into account the Constitution and the National Development Plan. We have formed seven work groups that have designed a strategic plan with programs, projects and instruments, in order to manage risk associated to cultural heritage.
