This paper establishes a dialogue with Renata Schneider's article Para construir casas in relation to the constitutive and regulatory elements in conservation-restoration. It is based on a qualitative inquiry about the essence of discipline, reintroducing Neo-Kantianism in contemporary philosophy and Cesare Brandi's and Salvador Munoz' restoration principles in order to formulate an analysis on the epistemological and reflexive sources of conservation- restoration as a formalized discipline that poses research questions and discoveries from its own methodological practices.
