Abstract
The findings obtained after surveying fifty contemporary artists of fast painting are hereby presented in order to define the most frequently used substances today as accelerators for drying contemporary oil paintings. This opinion poll enabled to clearly define the type of compounds used, their methods of application and the commercial brands most frequently used in the Spanish sphere. After obtaining this information, the cobalt siccative was subjected to an accelerated aging process through a cyclical exposure to temperature and humidity in a climatic chamber as well as to light. This was made to determine whether the transformation of the pictorial layers due to the use of this chemical compound, can lead to affect the message of the works of art by excessively altering their pristine appearance.
