Abstract
The Svalbard Textile Conservation Project (1982-86) addressed the conservation of textile material recovered from Nordic expeditions to Arctic Svalbard (1955-60). The material consisted of over 350 fragments and larger pieces of clothing, footwear, and bedding constructed of woven, knitted, braided, felted, and nålbunnet wool. The project initated investigations into application of the technique of freeze-drying and an appropriate mounting system for the conserved textiles. -- AATA
