Archaeometric methods for prospection, material analysis, and dating are explained in this introductory textbook without use of mathematical formulas. Special emphasis is laid on advanced physical methods, and recent developments are mentioned. Numerous examples show where they are applicable, what archaeological information can be derived, and what difficulties might appear in the interpretation.
