Considering the great number of archaeological specimens and significant numbers of ethnological artifacts in Park Service custody, the necessity to preserve them in ways that will permit future analysis, the limited extent of research on anthropological conservation techniques, and the in-service staff of only four anthropological conservators, the Park Service presently stresses providing protective environments for the collections in storage and on display.
