Abstract
The Conservation Division, Harpers Ferry Center, performs three principal functions for museums in the national parks of the United States: treatment of objects selected for exhibition, safe mounting of them for exhibit, and safe transport from and to the parks. Nine qualified conservators carry out the treatments in specialized laboratories. The conservators also conduct collection condition surveys to aid with collection management planning and coordinate the preventive conservation aspects of museum building and exhibit plans.
