During the dredging of the Hensies-Pommeroeul Canal, a Gallo-Roman site was uncovered, containing artifacts dating from the La Tène II to the Roman conquest. Boats were found beneath the wharf. The Institut Royal du Patrimoine Artistique and the Service National des Fouilles were responsible for the dating and conservation of the barks. Polyethylene glycol was used to consolidate the wood (see AATA 21-1645 for further information on the conservation). The preparation of the wood for dating is described and the dates for the various boats are given; these data confirm the date for the site itself.
