Abstract
Radiocarbon dating was used to determine the age of St. Donat's Church in Zadar, Yugoslavia. The error usually associated with radiocarbon measurements was substantially reduced by measuring repeatedly several samples of oak wood from beams built in the church. The sources of experimental errors and their elimination or reduction are discussed. A statistical analysis of data is presented and the earliest date for the erection of the church is set at AD 750 ± 20.
