Equations governing evaporation are reviewed and the quantitative drying process is explored for water-soluble polymers. Observed initial rates of evaporation of solvents and water are interpreted as diffusion through a stagnant or boundary layer of air above the surface of the evaporating liquid or coating. The concept of CRITICAL RH is discussed. -- AATA
