This article describes the procedures used by Spink's and Sons furniture restoration workshop. Only the best furniture is accepted, and pieces seen as beyond help are not remade . The latter are stored as a source of spares, and for copying. Much time is spent on restoring previous restorations . The restorers have diverse skills and aim to catch the spirit of the original craftsmen. Only traditional Scotch animal glue is used because it is water soluble, has high bond strength and possesses a low melting point. The application of wax-resin polishes is described, but the precise composition of these mixtures is not revealed. -- AATA
