Apparatus is described which may be used to determine the beta dose-rate in pottery, requiring only 1.5 grams of sample. It is a development of a larger system which, using a 40 millimeter diameter calcium fluoride dosimeter, was able to give an absolute determination of the beta dose-rate independent of isotope with an accuracy of plus or minus 5% within 10-14 d. The new apparatus utilizes an external 10 millimeter diameter dosimeter and is subcalibrated against the larger unit. Experiments to determine the isotope independence are discussed. -- AATA
