A decorated copper-alloy bucket was discovered in a field near the Sutton Hoo ship burial site. The surface is decorated with a hunting scene executed with punches and a small chisel. It is one of a group of very similar buckets, two of which have been found in England. The group of buckets are described and compared. A metal analysis has been carried out on this bucket and the other examples. All are copper/zinc alloys averaging 18-28% with most around 20%. Tin was less than 1% and lead was below 1.5% except in a bucket handle (5. 1%) now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The analysis pattern is very consistent and suggests they were all made in the same workshop, using probably cementation brass diluted 3:1 with copper.
