There can be few glasses of the second and first millennia B.C. that can be closely dated to within a span of a few years. The small groups presented here are dated by their royal associations. Two of these groups come from the foundation deposits of temples, and one group comes from a very unusual Canopic jar. All have been in the collection of the British Museum for some time, but they have only recently been the subject of detailed studies that revealed their importance in the history of glass. We list the results of our electron microprobe analyses of these glasses in the Table and the details of the experimental method in the Appendix.
