This paper presents research in to some of the historic building and architectural features found within the City of Valencia. The material culture of the city has come under focus, not only due to the historical construction techniques used in the buildings of the city, but also due to the city’s heritage value, both of which illustrate how Valencia has been a true witness of the past. This study aims to contribute towards the stock of architectural knowledge on the city and proposes that the preserved state of existing architecture acts to document Valencia’s history, which gives the city its identity and character. This paper shows the initial results of the research: a study on the brick fabrics dating from the 17th and 18th centuries and a study on the historic ceilings of the city.
