The Correos building (Luis Ferrero, 1916) is characteristic of the monumental public architecture at the beginning of the 20th century, serving as a stylistic reference for Spanish caticismo. It is also a building that has undergone improper interventions and deserves a special study so that it recovers its prominence in the city setting. The project considers recovering the original volume of the building, a restructuring of the interior where the programme described in the tender conditions will be undertaken. In order to accomplish this, and considering the poor state of overall conservation of the horizontal structure, a conservation of the mural elements of both the perimeter and façade towers is proposed by substituting the internal structure of supports and frameworks for a new floor system, except for the first floor which will be maintained. Special attention must be drawn to the process of historical, graphic, literary research that led to an understanding of the origins of the building and former conformations changes made with the pass of time, etc. With this information, it is possible to understand and value the transformations undertaken and therefore propose a suitable restoration. This project was the result of all the IRP team.
