The American Society for Conservation Archaeology, founded in April, 1974, adopted a constitution and by-laws at the Society for American Archaeology meeting in May, 1976. The purpose of ASCA is to ensure that archaeologists recognize that all excavation destroys a non-renewable Source, and that professional standards be maintained. -- AATA
