Conservation practices at the Museum of Fine Arts are accomplished in three stages: neutralization of conditions promoting deterioration; stabilization of the object producing structural soundness and dimensional stability; and preservation of stability by attaching support and maintaining proper storage and exhibition. Four case-studies are presented: a Greco-Roman wool tapestry, a cotton Indian cover, a fragment of an Italian silk shroud, and segments from a Turkish garment. See also 19-1527. -- AATA
