Four practical aspects of the rock art conservation program in Kakadu National Park, recording, conservation, site management, and interpretation, are critically reviewed and evaluated. The recording done involved site survey, mapping, and photogrammetry; the conservation measures involved the installation of a silicone dripline, silicone caulking, dripline maintenance, the removal of wasp nests and vegetation. A case study (at Ubirr) of management and interpretation is presented, notes given on the progress to date at Nourlangie Rock, and remarks made on communication with Aboriginal people. Future initiatives and goals are indicated; they include the computerization of data, and the increase of the involvement of Aboriginal people in site maintenance and interpretation. -- AATA
