Generally speaking, the Iron Age is not a well-known length of time in the Middle Tajo Valley, namely the region of the modern town of Talavera and, extensively, the modern Toledo province. Traditionally, studies of Iron Age ceramics have been performed from a typological and chronological perspective concentrating mainly on the analysis of decorative designs and shapes. Accordingly, archaeometric characterization studies have been little used for approaching paleoeconomical aspects such as technological processes or sequences of manufacture. This is in large part because no issues summarizing recent trends in ceramic production have yet been undertaken. This paper shows an overall view of such a period, emphasizing those questions concerning pottery making in which an archaeometric characterization perspective could be carried out.
