Mentioned are reasons for restoring a firearm, such as making an otherwise unsaleable piece saleable, enhancing the appearance of a neglected or damaged firearm which has some significance through association with some person or event, making a firearm suitable for display as an example of its kind. The goal of retaining a maximum of original parts, finish, etc., is mentioned. Ethics in restoration is touched upon. Some specific techniques are mentioned.
