Abstract
Drawings by the American artist Winslow Homer have been examined in order to try and determine the original paper colour. Working in the latter 19th century the artist used many machine made papers which have now discoloured to brownish. It is necessary to have this information in order to decide whether restoration treatment to reverse the colour and/or lighten it should be undertaken and whether it would be longlasting. B/W photographs.
