The question of the mechanism of insolubilization of collagen fiber still remains to be solved. In order to approach this question, the solubilization of the insoluble collagen fiber by treatment with various hydrolytic enzymes and the characterization of the solubilized molecule have been attempted in the authors' laboratory.
