Abstract
Analyzes methods of weaving Coptic tunics with tapestry bands ornamenting the sleeves and shoulder areas. Suggests that the change from one-piece to multiple-piece construction may reflect the use of a different kind of loom. Argues that, beginning in the 4th century, the high-warp loom was gradually replaced by versions, possibly experimental, of low-warp looms.
