Abstract
The fungi isolated from the Tredunnock boat are those common to a terrestrial environment, mainly members of the Deuteromycotina and Basidiomycotina. Most of the Deuteromycotina which were isolated are capable of causing soft rot. Storing the timbers of the boat by immersion in water will inhibit the ligno-oxygenase enzymes of the Basidiomycotina, but will not necessarily inhibit those of the Deuteromycetes from producing soft rot. Fungicidal levels of biocides will need to be added to any wet storage system to overcome this threat of soft rot decay.
