A paper presented at the 18th International Union of Forestry Research Organizations World Congress, Ljubljana, September 1986. Trials are reported of measuring electrical resistance to a pulsed current using commercial equipment on living trees and seasoned timber of broadleaf and coniferous species. Problems were encountered in drilling holes for the probe, obtaining consistent readings, and interpreting the results.
