Describes the architectural conservation of a log barn in Yellowstone National Park. Ends of the wall logs protruding beyond the roof overhang had decayed seriously. The contractor carefully cut off the deteriorated ends of 39 logs at the corner notches. Sections cut from new logs of the same species were shaped and fitted as replacements. Secure attachment to withstand calculated shear forces consisted of three 1.25 cm diameter fiberglass reinforcement rods set in structural-grade epoxy resin in each log.
