Abstract
The seminar was planned to be a forum for the intelligent exchange of ideas on the various approaches to the treatment of works of art, both historical and contemporary, for the benefit of artists, art historians, curators, conservators, and conservation scientists. It was intended to dispel some of the myth and mystery surrounding the conservation profession and its activities. The seminar was also aimed at helping participants to understand more fully the very real concerns shared by artists, art historians, curators, conservators, conservation scientists, registrars, exhibition coordinators, designers, preparators - and all museum personnel who impact directly on the usage of collections - when involved in the decision-making processes affecting lending, borrowing, and exhibitions. It was intended to help establish wider parameters to consider when decisions are made involving the treatment of paintings in particular. -- SCMRE
