Acoustic emission and determination of rupture energy were used to investigate the development of cracks in wood glued with phenol resorcinol resin. Various sizes of test piece were used to investigate shear in bending and in compression. It is shown that the stress at which acoustic emission occurs and the total number of pulses depend on the stress state, the scale factor, and the previous history of the test-piece. -- AATA
